Deep Fishing
“I swear by the gods! Its scales shone like sapphires, and it was worth more than the king carries in his pocket! ...No, I cannot show you. I accidentally ate it while fleeing from an Orc Berserker!” — A tale often told by Sam at the Thais tavern.
Deep Fishing
Fishing in RUBERA preserves the simple roots of version 7.4: choose a water spot, cast your line, and develop your fishing skill with every valid attempt. There are no mandatory baits, additional tools, or a sequence of actions that turns the activity into something it was never meant to be.
This foundation remains familiar, but the waters of the world now hold more than common fish. As your skill increases and you explore new regions, you can find more nutritious species that sustain your regeneration longer without taking up as much room in your backpack.
Classic Fishing
Each use of a fishing rod on an available water spot represents a fishing attempt.
Both success and failure help develop your fishing skill. When a fish is caught, that water spot becomes temporarily depleted and needs roughly 20 minutes to recover.
A depleted spot only displays the visual effect of the attempt. It provides neither fish nor training until it becomes available again.
If the character cannot carry the caught fish, the water remains intact. It is also not possible to start fishing inside a protection zone.
A Skill That Brings Results
Fishing is not just a number shown in the skill window. The higher your skill, the better your chances of pulling something from the water:
| Fishing skill | Catch chance (all fish) |
|---|---|
| 25 | 18% |
| 40 | 27% |
| 60 | 39% |
| 80 or higher | 50% |
A higher skill also lets you find species that less experienced fishers cannot catch yet.
| Fishing skill | Special fish available |
|---|---|
| 25 | Icyfish |
| 40 | Atlantic Salmon |
| 60 | River Bass |
| 80 or higher | Deep Sea Fish |
Special fish offer longer periods of regeneration and an increasingly better relationship between food and capacity. For explorers and characters spending long periods away from cities, this combination lets them carry food for longer.
Regional Species
Special fish are not distributed equally across the map. Each species inhabits waters compatible with its nature, making location as important to fishing as the skill itself.
Icyfish
Ice Islands: Folda, waters north of Senja, Senja, and Vega.
Available from fishing 25; represents 4% of successful catches and provides 3 minutes of regeneration.
Atlantic Salmon
Cold northern waters: Folda, waters north of Senja, Senja, Vega, the northwest coast of Carlin, and Northport.
Requires fishing 40, represents 3% of successful catches, and provides 3 minutes and 36 seconds of regeneration. On the Ice Islands, it can be found together with Icyfish.
River Bass
Rivers, lakes, and inland waters: rivers southwest, south, and southeast of Ab'Dendriel; rivers in central Venore; rivers west of Venore; rivers west of Ankrahmun; and the lake near the wasp towers of Darashia.
Requires fishing 60, normally represents 2% of successful catches, and provides 4 minutes and 24 seconds of regeneration.
Deep Sea Fish
Coasts and sea waters: Edron coast, from the port to the area near Dragon Lair; south of Edron, between Orc Camp and the area near Sky Lane Sea; southeast coast of Darashia; waters south of Fibula; and Ankrahmun port.
Requires fishing 80 or higher, normally represents 2% of successful catches, and provides 5 minutes and 12 seconds of regeneration.
Fish and Efficiency
A higher fishing skill gives access to fish that offer more food and better use of capacity. Each new species represents an advance in both regeneration time and efficiency per unit of weight.
| Fish | Skill | Regeneration | Weight | Efficiency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common Fish | — | 2m24s | 5.20 oz | 27.69s/oz |
| Icyfish | 25 | 3m | 5.80 oz | 31.03s/oz |
| Atlantic Salmon | 40 | 3m36s | 5.40 oz | 40s/oz |
| River Bass | 60 | 4m24s | 6.20 oz | 42.58s/oz |
| Deep Sea Fish | 80 | 5m12s | 6.00 oz | 52s/oz |
Although not every species weighs less than a common fish, special fish offer a progressively better relationship between weight and regeneration. The higher the fishing skill required, the more food time a character can carry per unit of capacity.
Ankrahmun
The rivers west of Ankrahmun and waters near the port offer especially favorable fishing conditions. The phenomenon emerged after the exodus caused by the conflicts between the exiled pharaohs and Arkothep.
Part of the population left the city, reducing fish consumption and the number of active boats. With less pressure on the ecosystem, the schools of fish grew again.
Today, Deep Sea Fish concentrate near the port, while the waters west of Ankrahmun hold more River Bass than usual.
The presence of these species in these waters is more than 2% higher than normally found in other regions of the world, drawing many fishers to Ankrahmun.
Quick Highlights
- Fishing mechanics based on classic 7.4 behavior.
- No worms required.
- Valid successes and failures train fishing.
- Higher catch chance as skill rises.
- Four special species with their own requirements.
- Special fish are more nutritious.
- Species distributed across regions of the world.
- Natural hotspots in Ankrahmun's rivers and port.
- Approximately 20 minutes for water recovery.
Deep Fishing preserves the simplicity of classic fishing while giving purpose to skill growth and exploration of RUBERA's waters. An experienced fisher finds not only more fish: they learn where the best species live and which regions are worth visiting with a rod in their backpack.
